Nokia (NOK) What You Should Know

Nokia Corporation (NOK) is a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company, founded in 1865.

In October of 2019, Nokia faced it’s largest share price decline in decades. Nokia cut its outlook for 2020 and suspended its dividend payment. This was a result of fierce competition from 5G mobile networks.

It’s Swedish rival Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), has been a strong player in the wireless networking space. On December 20th, Ericsson signed an agreement for a credit facility with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) for 150 million USD. The agreement will support investments in research and development of 5G technology. Nokia also faces competition from other rivals including Huawei, Inseego (INSG), and Marvel Technology Group LTD (MRVL).

IS Nokia A Buy?

Although Nokia recently suspended its dividend due to rising competition, there is still time for them to establish themselves as a leader in the 5G mobile network revolution. However, Nokia will have to lower their costs to develop and manufacture 5G equipment and secure more contracts, and inevitably raise more money to catch up with their competitors on R & D.
